Alessandra Bautze is a writer whose work often tackles diverse issues of social import. She holds an MFA in Screenwriting from The University of Texas at Austin and a BA in the Writing Seminars and Film and & Media Studies from Johns Hopkins University. While she continues to write screenplays, TV pilots, and fiction, she also writes nonfiction articles on a variety of topics — from the preservation of American Sign Language poetry to the depiction of DREAMers on Freeform's The Fosters to the use of solitary confinement in juvenile detention facilities. She frequently attends cultural events throughout New York City, and loves to share what she's learned with others who were unable to attend. She believes in the power of language to connect communities, and enjoys speaking French and using American Sign Language.
