Occupy Wall Street will demonstrate the true spirit of the season by hosting a Holiday Bazaar and Skill Share Event on Sunday, December 18th at City Life Wellness in Brooklyn, New York.
Although NYC Occupiers have been evicted from their home at Zuccotti Park, the movement continues to stage bold actions that educate and serve the local community.
Just like the barter market that factilitated a moniless exchange of goods and services at Zuccotti Park before the police raid, the Holiday Bazaar furthers Occupy Wall Street's goal of building alternative economies from the ashes of old system.
"Instead of relying on currency to determine value, we believe in a system that allows individuals to work together and assess value for themselves," state the event's organizers."
The event, to be co-produced by Seismologik Media and Evolver.net, will feature day-long skill share workshops on a variety of topics, including guerrila gardening, fermentation, climate science, tea, candle, and herbal medicine making, and plumbing, as well as live demonstrations of the OWS/Times Up NRG Bikes, and an Alternative Economy think tank.
Attendees will also be treated to live music, giveaways from Greenaid, a holiday dinner provided by the OWS Kitchen, and the opportunity to browse the wares of various local crafters, artisans, and food makers.
If you can't attend the bazaar, but would like to support the OWS Sustainability Working Group's goal of educating the public about alternative economies, please consider donating to their crowdfunding campaign.
