Last month, I was preparing to give a five-minute speech about sharing and what we do at Shareable. While I have spoken about this many times, this occasion was different. As I was reflecting about how to convey the core of our work, I came to one word that is the basis for everything that we do: Story.
There is an old adage that you've probably heard that the pen is mightier than the sword. While this may be true, it is not the pen that holds such power, but rather the stories that it creates.
Everything that we do in modern society is rooted in story. Be it the fiat currency we use to pay for things, the clothes we wear, the food we eat, the power we give to governments, the information we share and so much more are all shaped by stories.
Since 2009, Shareable has covered people-powered economic initiatives that represent a pragmatic alternative to the "there is no alternative to capitalism" story. We work every week to bring these alternatives to the table, to showcase what’s already working and to offer a critical eye to those things claiming to represent the shared world we seek, but may not be living up to their potential.
We invite you to write this story with us. Please give a tax-deductible donation to Shareable to help us continue our advertising-free coverage of the global sharing movement.
If everyone on our 30,000 strong e-newsletter list donated just $10, the costs of our editorial program would be covered for an entire year. If everyone gave an annual donation of $15, all of our programs, including our sharing campaigns, would be paid for.
If you donate today, you will receive an advance copy of our new ebook a month ahead of its official release. The articles in the ebook “How to Share, Save Money & Have Fun” include “Top 10 ways to save money by sharing” and “A guide to sharing for every season.” The ebook also includes numerous ideas on how to share food, housing, education and transportation with your family and in your community.
Your donation will help us support more community sharing projects, bring more sharing advocates together and recruit more writers.
