There is another way: Round table on Palestine-Israel

On October 7th, Hamas fighters breached the militarized fence separating the occupied Gaza strip from Israeli communities in the south, killing 1,400 people and taking 200 hostages. Israel immediately retaliated with severe bombardment of the Gaza strip that, at the time of this recording, has killed nearly 10,000 people while forcing 2 million more, including a million children, to the edge of starvation and dehydration. In the West Bank, settler violence and army raids have also killed dozens of Palestinians, and both Palestinian citizens of Israel and leftist Israelis have been arrested for speaking out.

While the world is currently transfixed by what’s happening in Palestine-Israel, this story did not begin on October 7th and will not end when this current conflict is over.

I don’t know about you, but I’ve been feeling at a loss for how to take meaningful action towards an immediate Ceasefire in Gaza. I’ve done my best to keep up with the news, donated to NGOs supporting people on the ground, and signed petitions. I’ve been encouraged by the hundreds of thousands of people who have gotten out in the street in solidarity with the Palestinian people. But what else?

After listening to several inflammatory takes over the past month, I was pleasantly surprised when I came across “There is Another Way: A Round Table on Palestine-Israel” on The Fire These Times podcast. It was exactly the conversation that I needed to be a fly on the wall for.

So today, we’re cross posting that conversation as a bonus episode for listeners of The Response.

The Fire These Times co-hosts, Joey Ayoub and Daniel Voskoboynik are joined by Dana El Kurd, Orly Noy, and Yair Wallach to think through this moment, process their grief together, and articulate alternative visions for both peoples.

We hope you learn or feel something new while listening to this conversation.
