Anyone in the coworking community can tell you that coworking is booming. Shared workspaces are popping up in cities around the world and a growing number of people with a variety of backgrounds, interests and jobs are discovering the benefits of coworking.
Now, DeskWanted's Global Coworking Census has made it official. Conducted in February, the 2013 census found an 87% annual increase in the number of shared workspaces around the world, bringing the total number to 2,498. Here are some more interesting findings from the census:
- Since 2010, there has been a 300% increase in the number of coworking spaces
- 80 countries around the world now have shared workspaces
- The U.S. has the most shared workspaces (781), followed by Germany (230) the UK (166) and Australia (62)
- Several countries, including Ghana, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Puerto Rico and Venezuela are just getting started, with one shared workspace each.
