Taking a cue from the ever-more-visible food trucks and displaying a whole new level of community engagement, the City of Boston recently sent the new City Hall To Go truck out on the road. The idea is to meet people where they are — to make select government services available right there in the neighborhoods.

The boundaries of Boston encompass some 50 square miles which, despite a solid public transit system, can be difficult terrain to traverse for some people. That’s why Mayor Thomas Menino told Government Technology that the City Hall To Go project is all about convenience for Boston’s citizens: “We want to make it as easy as possible for residents to get personal, timely service from their city, and the truck helps us to do just that for a whole new set of constituents.”
