Gabriel Levinson, the man behind the Book Bike, is getting ready for another summer of distributing books to Chicagoans young and old at parks and other public venues around the city. As we covered in a Shareable feature last spring, Levinson supports literacy and small presses by purchasing books at independent book stores around Chicago and then distributing them using his custom-built tricycle. It's an entirely not-for-profit enterprise that gets no foundation funding or endowments, so Levinson is soliciting donations for this year's book buy with a goal of reaching $10,000 by June 1st. An initial stock of books will be purchased in what Levinson has dubbed The Great Book Bike Book Buy, with weekly trips to restock the bike taking place for the rest of the summer.
