Booka Alon is an active voice in the local Bay Area Food Justice and Urban Agriculture movement. Community organizer, event producer, kitchen gardener and permaculture designer, Booka is most proud of her role as the Vermi-Love Lady, adopted because of her passion for worms and their tenacious tunneling temperament. Booka graduated with a Political Science degree from Kenyon College and teaches throughout the Bay Area at urban farms, schools and medical centers on simple strategies for growing food locally. She is affiliated with Kitchen Garden SF, The San Francisco Urban Agriculture Alliance and serves as the outreach coordinator for Hayes Valley Farm. Booka has been leading workshops since 2009 in vermiculture as well as other small-scale solutions to repair our food system. In 2011 she founded Roots to Fruits, a tree-advocacy organization spearheading progressive initiatives for fruit tree-planting programs at local Bay Area schools and community gardens.
