The Rural Power Coalition and Shareable are co-hosting the Rural Electric Cooperative Co-lab in March and April 2025. The Co-lab will feature eight weekly training sessions.
This learning and action lab is designed to mobilize supportive organizations and rural electric cooperative (REC) member-owners to reclaim their RECs to spread democracy, improve people’s lives, and act on the climate crisis.
In this first co-lab session held on Tuesday, March 4, presenters Erik Hatlestad and Bri Knisley will explain the basics of what RECs are, a little bit of their history, and how they offer enormous potential to increase democracy in our energy system, and can use the co-operative decision-making power of the people to supercharge the energy transition.
The following seven sessions of the co-lab will dive into specific areas and ways to get involved in RECs.
After the Co-lab, our team will produce a comprehensive digital organizing toolkit and self-paced online course to empower member-owners to take action at the local level.
