Farm City author Novella Carpenter.
There are some events coming up in the San Francisco Bay Area that might interest Shareable readers:
-
Later this month, I'll be interviewing Ecotopia
author Ernest Callenbach on Novella Carpenter's farm--the three-way dialog will appear here on Shareable.net in July as part of our Shareable Futures series. Who is Novella Carpenter? She's the author of a great memoir of urban agriculture called Farm City and she'll be celebrating its paperback release tonight, July 16, at Green Arcade Books in San Francisco, 7 pm.
-
The next night, June 17 at 7 pm, I'll discuss my books The Daddy Shift
and The Compassionate Instinct
at the Redwood City Downtown Public Library, as part of its city-wide "Community Building" series. The following Saturday, June 19, I'll be at Green Arcade Books celebrating the paperback back release of The Daddy Shift
(which is about shared parenting in the twenty-first century) with writers Jeff Gillenkirk and Mike Adamick, and children's musician Frances England.
- On Thursday, June 24, 2010, 6:30 in San Francisco, Shareable.net will co-host a discussion with Wolfgang Hoeschele about his forthcoming book, The Economics of Abundance: A Political Economy of Freedom, Equity, and Sustainability. Details about the event are here.
- Want to set up your own urban farm project? On Monday, July 12, Shareable contributor Janelle Orsi will be running an "Urban Agriculture Legal Meet-Up" at the Hub Berkeley. That day, Janelle and attorneys from her Sustainable Economies Law Center will also be providing free 30-minute legal consultations with folks interested in setting up their own urban agriculture projects. To sign up for a session, email Chris Curran at curranc(at)uhastings.edu with a few sentences describing your project and legal issues you might like to discuss.
Are you aware of any shareable events in the Bay Area or elsewhere? Please tell us about it in a comment....in the meantime, just to make you happy, here's a video of Frances England's wonderful song "Tricycle":

This Sunday, I'll be judging the Homegrown Produce category at Urban Eats, part of the SF Giants County Fair. Why not enter your kale, favas, or onions?! There will also be workshops on backyard chickens, container gardening, and urban beekeeping. For details on the event: http://www.cuesa.org/events/urban_eats.php
We're planning a sustainable communities field trip from the Bay Area to existing w/openings and planned cohousing neighborhoods in Nevada City, Grass Valley, Auburn, Folsom, and Sacramento... by Amtrak and bus/van. Tentatively July 10. Details will be posted on the Cohousing California and East Bay Cohousing website, but we need expressions of interest now in order to pursue working out the details.
