Shanna is a Brazilian journalist and social scientist based in Rio de Janeiro. Her work can be found in various international media outlets including The Guardian,Germany's Die Zeit, Finland's Helsingin Sanomat and Swedish Public Radio. She has covered social, environmental and political issues all over Latin America, with a special interest in women's issues. During the Olympic period in Rio, she coordinated a special project for The Guardian with favela correspondents called Rio Voices: our Olympic Odyssey — a reflection on the day-to-day lives of three residents and the impact of the 2016 Games. The project was shortlisted for a One World Media award in 2017. She is also a certified locksmith and an amateur aerial acrobat.
