Restorative Economics: An Equitable Development Framework and Strategy Webinar
LOCATION
DATE / TIME

12:00 PM - 01:00 PM
DESCRIPTION
In order to truly address the debilitating income, wealth, and health inequality that impacts our most vulnerable low income and communities of color —one that has been made worse by climate disruption we must embrace a restorative approach to transforming our communities through local economic empowerment—a process focused on accountability, reconciliation and restitution. When communities come together to collectively own and manage assets, they can leverage their joint economic power to collectively assert their rights and exercise cultural and political power in a more impactful way than they would on their own.
Long time social justice organizer and former EcoDistrict staff member, Nwamaka Agbo, will provide an overview of her innovative Restorative Economics framework, and how she is applying it as an equitable development strategy. The webinar will walk attendees through the methodology and principles that inform her framework and take an in-depth look at a recent development project with a close analysis of the integrated capital stack and its implications for achieving the equitable development goals set for the projects. Participants will have an opportunity to reflect on how the financing of development projects can be leveraged to deepen equitable outcomes in low-income communities of color.
