About the Event
It's been over two years since Hurricane Maria devastated Puerto Rico and islanders are still waiting for the FEMA disaster relief funds that were initially promised. But instead of waiting for federal assistance, a grassroots network of local aid centers has emerged and is beginning to rebuild the neighborhoods that were hardest hit. As climate change makes these kinds of disasters more common, local resiliency efforts are becoming crucial to help prepare communities to respond to events like hurricanes, floods, wildfires, and heatwaves. Join 350 Seattle for a 30-minute film about the recovery in Puerto Rico and stay afterward for a discussion about what we can do in Seattle to prepare and to be ready to help our neighbors if a disaster of this magnitude were to strike our region. We'll be joined by representatives from the Seattle and UW Offices of Emergency Management with resources for people who are interested in learning more. Ticketing: Our Pay-What-You-Can model allows our events to be accessible to the entire community! We have no minimum or maximum amount suggested, we simply ask you to pay what you can. Accessibility: Wheelchair lift available at the SW entrance (off Brooklyn Ave). Max capacity of 550 lbs. Call UHeights staff for assistance at: (206) 235-8567
