Operations Manager

We are seeking a passionate, self-starting operations professional to join our small, dynamic team and lead the operations of Shareable. The Operation Manager will manage human resources, administration, and finances with our fiscal sponsor, Tides Center, and over the long-term, help prepare Shareable to become an independent 501(c)3 managed by cooperative principles. The position will work closely with the Staff, Board and other Stakeholders to develop Shareable into a more effective organization that’s better able to attract and retain high-caliber talent needed to achieve our goals. The Operations Manager is a new position that will report to the Project Director and be part of the senior management team.

Responsibilities:

• Coordinate strategic planning, general communication, and logistics with advisory board and Board and staff retreats

• Lead organizational development initiatives; develop and implement systems and policies to advance our development towards a democratic workplace

• Act as the primary contact for Shareable’s nonprofit fiscal sponsor Tides Center: respond to requests from Tides, proactively keep abreast of Tides requirements of its projects, policies, reporting requirements and related duties. Train staff on appropriate Tides rules and policies. In addition, the OM will match the needs of Shareable with available resources from Tides Center

• In partnership with staff, coordinate performance evaluations to ensure consistent and timely completion

• Support organizational fundraising. The Operations Manager will lead fundraising efforts until a Development Director is hired and then will offer support

• Coordinate hiring and onboarding process for new staff members. Develop policies and implement best practices to help Shareable attract and retain the best talent

• Lead Shareable’s transition to a democratically run organization from a traditional nonprofit structure

• Lead Shareable’s finance function including reporting, seeking cost reductions, processing income, monitoring cash flow, paying vendors as well as processing invoices, expense reimbursements, and credit card reconciliations; analyze and update the budget as needed

• Manage contractor relationships ensuring favorable contract terms, contract compliance, and compliance with IRS and Tides’ policies

• Create and implement organization-wide systems to streamline business operations

• Develop tools and reports to provide information and key metrics to the management team and Advisory Board

• Advise on and/or process HR employee changes in hours, compensation, and/or job descriptions

Qualifications:

• A passion for sharing, the alternative economy, social transformation, sustainability, and education

• Superior interpersonal skills required. Facilitation and communication training a plus. Prefer an open-minded person able to engage different communities, create consensus, and build coalitions around their work

• 2-5 years professional experience in one or more of the following areas: operations, organizational development, or human resources

• Exceptional organizational skills with a strong attention to detail

• Experience working on a virtual team is a plus. A high level of discipline, motivation and self-directedness is essential

• Experience working in any kind of democratic organization is a plus or a strong desire to do so

• Bachelor’s degree required

Campaign Organizer

The Campaign Organizer works closely with the Organizing Director in the development and management of the sharing city network, sharing campaigns and general programmatic responsibilities. The Campaign Organizer will be responsible for establishing relationships with and supporting local sharing organizers, organizing two international sharing campaigns, coordinating training webinars, researching and compiling training and general campaign materials, engaging in regular communications to support sharing city campaign work, and supporting fundraising activities. This is a temporary 6 month partially remote position with some travel requirements necessary for work.

Responsibilities:

• Coordinate two international sharing campaigns (winter/spring) 

• Establish relationships with and support local sharing organizers, projects and events 

• Support Shareable’s network of activists in the Sharing Cities Network on a day to day basis, which is comprised of over 2,000 leaders from around the world 

• Identify and recruit members to be apart of the sharing city network program 

• Mobilize and empower community members by providing information, creating events, and providing trainings 

• Train local sharing organizers on how to run an effective local sharing movement 

• Write articles about the network and campaigns and publish on Shareable.net 

• Promote the network on social media by creating posts that support the sharing city organizing work 

• Schedule and facilitate network conference calls

• Participate in staff meetings and trainings, as requested 

• Organizing software and database management 

• Fundraising to support organizing program 

• Various additional duties as needed

Requirements:

• Education and experience: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education 

• 3 years of community organizing experience, preferable with all or part with low income and diverse communities

• Experience in training, event and meeting coordination 

• Experience with utilizing social media channels to market an idea and support events and/or grow a network

Knowledge, skills and abilities:

• Excellent oral and written communication skills 

• Excellent interpersonal skills 

• Demonstrated knowledge of social media 

• Demonstrated interest in economic transformation, community building, social justice and sustainability 

• Strong project management skills 

• Ability to recruit members and establish strong relationships with a diverse population

Physical Demands

This position requires the use of a computer and phone while working from home. Ability to travel locally to coworking office for staff meetings and work, and ability to occasionally speak in front of groups and crowds both digitally and in person. The position also requires some travel to perform other essential duties.

Work Environment

The Campaign Organizer is a partially remote position that will work from home and from Bay Area coworking locations in Oakland and San Francisco. Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision.

Development Manager

We are seeking an innovative, results-driven Development Manager to lead all aspects of Shareable’s fundraising efforts, with emphasis on online fundraising. The Development Manager will be the designer of the development function. They will collaborate closely with internal stakeholders to build fundraising strategies that support long-term sustainability. Reporting to the Project Director, the Development Manager will play a critical role on the team, bringing flexibility, innovation and an entrepreneurial spirit to the organization. Shareable is a thriving organization with a small dedicated staff. This is a tremendous opportunity for a self-directed development professional to help shape the fundraising strategy as Shareable continues to grow.

Responsibilities:

• Lead the creation and execution of a robust fundraising strategy in partnership with the Project Director and other staff. Leverage Shareable’s large audience with both traditional and innovative fundraising techniques including crowdfunding

• Serve as an engaging external ambassador of Shareable. Help to build a diverse portfolio of supporters including individuals, foundations, and organizations. Identify and cultivate relationships that will support the organization’s growth

• Track and evaluate the effectiveness of fundraising activities in accordance with the strategic fundraising plan. Continually improve using a data-driven approach

• Explore new income streams for Shareable based on Shareable’s strengths and what’s credible in Shareable’s niche market (membership, training, education are possibilities)

• Maintain excellent relations with donors through timely, positive communication and excellent customer service

• Stay current on best practices in philanthropy, social media, and marketing; integrate best practices into fundraising activities

• Become fluent in social, economic, and environmental challenges in order to effectively make the case for Shareable’s programs with diverse audiences

Qualifications:

• A passion for sharing, the alternative economy, social transformation, sustainability, and education

• A minimum of 3-5 years professional experience with demonstrated success of developing online fundraising programs; experience with corporate and foundation fundraising also a plus

• Superior verbal and written communications skills; demonstrated ability to conceptualize and describe needs in accessible and compelling ways

• Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to manage a variety of projects simultaneously

• Strong leadership skills with demonstrated experience facilitating teams towards aggressive goals; experience managing volunteers is preferred

• Experience using Salesforce or NationBuilder a plus

• Ability to thrive on a small, entrepreneurial team; experience or comfort with working on a virtual team is required as is a high level of discipline, motivation and self-directedness

• Background in environment, new economics, urban planning or other relevant topics preferred

• Experience working in any kind of democratic organization is a plus. If you do not have this experience, it is crucial that you are interested in sharing power within an organization, learning related skills proactively and making decisions collectively

• Some domestic travel may be required (under 10%)

• Bachelor’s degree required
