In honor of my fellow baseball fans on opening weekend: Play links!

  • For those of you who are psyched about the first pitch of the season, Wired has a guide to the best smartphone apps for fans.

  • At my Alma Mater The University of Maryland, College Park, some of the top minds in internet sociology are gathering next weekend for the "Theorizing the Web" conference. This is not one to be missed if you're anywhere in the area.

  • Speaking of theorizing the web, my friend Sarah Leonard has an excellent essay about the decidedly mixed bag that is government transparency.

  • Check out the Spring Lecture Series from the Public & Collaborative, a joint initiative from our friends at Parsons DESIS Lab and the Public Policy Lab.

  • The Collage Lab has a contest inviting you to rethink the way shopping could work in a post-capitalist society. I guess it wouldn't be shopping per se, but I think you know what they mean. Find out more here.

  • Ever wanted to make a book? No, not write a book, l mean make a book. GOOD has a guide on DIY book-binding, for the curious.

  • Crowdfunding has entered the hallowed halls of Congress and, unsurprisingly, ran smack into special-interest politics.

Malcolm, has your twitter account been hacked? I was trying to get in touch with you over Twitter, but the account listed on your Shareable profile and at your blog does not seem to be you, unless you have two very different personae. Might want to look into that.

In any case, Slate is kicking off a mini-series on walking and walkability that deserves a place in This Week in Sharing: http://www.slate.com/articles/life/walking/2012/04/why_don_t_americans_w...
