When was the last time you gave any thought to the width of a sidewalk or the paint on a crosswalk? For most of us, these things are in the background but for some, they are key design elements that invite people into public spaces which, in turn, helps to increase the health of communities.

In fact, in certain circles, creating safe, walkable areas with trees, lots of activity and room to move is referred to as "rewarding pedestrians" and it's serious business.
