How SQFT's Pop-Up Re-Imagined Market Street in One Day [VIDEO]

Urban planning can be a painfully slow process, with urban revitalization projects taking years or even decades. The Pop-Up movement is one of the many examples of urbanists and other citizens prototyping more immediate change on their own blocks. On August 1st, the SQFT project took over San Francisco’s Mid-Market Street corridor from 5th to 7th Street, to demonstrate how the space could be re-imagined. Featuring live music, activities, businesses, and services such as bike repair, the event invited locals and curious onlookers to interact with their urban space in new and collaborative ways. This short film documents some of the activities and reactions from the day, and the urban vitality that the event revealed:
